This 6 month old boy has come such a long way. He came in with a litter of pups in December and has been in a foster home ever since. His shy nature was not suited for the shelter environment so his foster family has been working on his socialization. They tell us: "Gaylord is going to be an amazing dog for a family. He is shy and it takes him awhile to warm up to people but he is getting faster every day. He would love a home with another dog as he loves playing with our dogs. Treats are a great way to his heart along with a comfy spot next to you on the couch or your bed. He will shy away from quick movements but enjoys children and is interested in what they are doing. He is very smart and with more time and patience he will learn all of the rules of his new home. He is completely house broken with a dog door and will let you know if he needs to go out if needed. Whoever adopts him just needs to understand he comes around on his own terms and time. He has made so much progress!" We think older children rather than younger might be best for him since he is nervous with quick movements. He will make a wonderful companion given time, patience, and another dog to help him adjust. If you have the commitment for a shy dog, he will make you proud of him and of yourself. His adoption fee of $200.00 includes neuter, current vaccines, free vet visit, 30 days offer of pet health insurance, and engraved ID tag. ALL ADOPTIONS ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, AFTER AN APPLICATION HAS BEEN RECEIVED.

Chubbies came to us an owner surrender. His owners were trying to reduce their cat numbers. This guy is affectionate and likes to be held. He has lived with small dogs, other cats, and kids and done well with all. He is kind of a rock star! He loves feathered toys and fuzzy mice. Chubbies is about a year old and weighs 10 pounds. You just might need a little Chubb in your life! His adoption fee of $65 includes his neuter, current vaccines, microchip, free vet visit, testing for FIV/FeLV (negative), 30 days of pet health insurance. • Up-to-date with routine shots
Saber came into our care as an owner surrender. He was adopted from another shelter approximately 5 months ago. He is about 3-3.5 years old and currently weighs 57 pounds. Saber has some AMAZING attributes! Believe it or not, he has lived peacefully with kids, another dog, 5 rabbits, 2 cats, 7 goats, and 30 chickens! We are in awe of his self control! He will play fetch with his rubber Kong ball until your arm falls off! He knows basic manners, is house-trained, and very affectionate. He had never shown any signs of aggression. So.....why was he surrendered? One day, a new person came to the owner's house and Saber gave the person a warning nip. There was no damage but it scared the family and it seemed to bother Saber as well. Later the same day, one of the older children in the home was being verbally reprimanded by one of the parents. The child then tripped and fell next to Saber. Saber reacted by biting the child in the lower leg. This bite DID break skin. Saber released when the child yelled but the damage was done. The bite did not require medical intervention but did cause puncture and bruising. Up to that point, he had been wonderful and loving with the children: 4, 9, and 12 years and then continued to be loving toward all children and adults after the incident. We think the Border Collie protective instinct kicked in with Saber when he saw the stranger in the home earlier in the day. His stress level did not recover and the next bite was the result. Although he loves kids, perhaps his new home should be without children. He should also have a setting where there are not a lot of visitors. His protective nature could get him into further trouble and we want to set him up for success. We love this warm, friendly boy and feel in the right home, he will be stellar. We will require a short phone consultation with our dog trainer prior to adoption. His adoption fee of $175.00 includes his neuter, current vaccines, microchip, free vet visit, 30 days of pet health insurance, and engraved ID tag. ALL ADOPTIONS ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, AFTER AN APPLICATION HAS BEEN RECEIVED.

  • German Shepherd Dog

Shenzi, Bonzai, and Ed came to us from the same home. Shenzi and Bonzai are extremely bonded brothers and we would prefer they were adopted together. Shenzi is sweet and friendly but much less confident that when Bonzai is with him. Bonzai brings out the best, most playful side of Shenzi and he loves to romp with him outdoors. We have had Shenzi with female dogs here at the shelter and he has done well. We think Shenzi is between 10 months and a year old and he currently weighs 55 pounds. We have been told there were children 10-12 years of age in his last home. Since he has previously lived as an outside dog, his new family will need to be patient as he learns to live as an indoor companion. Are you ready for consistent, gentle training? Please research POSITIVE training techniques before applying to adopt. We appreciate detailed answers to our adoption questions. Ed can be met and placed n hold but cannot go home until Tuesday, April 7th. His adoption fee of $200 includes neuter, current vaccines, microchip, free vet visit, 30 days of pet health insurance, and engraved ID tag.

This good looking boy was a surrender with two other male dogs from the same home. The owners were looking to down-size their number of dogs. He lived with kids 10-12 years of age in his previous home. Bonzai is about 10 months to one year old and very snuggly and affectionate. He is pretty new here so we haven't had him with other dogs other than those he came in with yet. Bonzai is a little needy and wants to be near his person as much as possible. Since he previously lived as an outside-only dog, a new owner will need to patient as he learns about being an inside companion. He may do best with someone that is not gone to work for long periods of time because we think he will bond deeply. He is especially bonded to his almost identical brother named Shenzi and we would prefer they be adopted together. His adoption fee of $200 includes neuter, current vaccines, microchip, free vet visit, 30 days of pet health insurance, and engraved ID tag.

Rip-roarin' Reed is a happy, ball-loving fella! We are a bit confused if he is more of a German Short haired Pointer or a Blue Tick Hound! He is very out-going, sweet and oh, so handsome. He has a sensitive nature so he needs to be handled kindly and patiently. he would NOT be a hunting dog as he is scared by loud noises. He does have a tendency to try to escape if left unattended and will bark to let you know his displeasure. He appears to be house-trained and loves going for long walks. Please be prepared for a very energetic dog that will need a securely fenced yard and consistent exercise for body and mind. He currently weighs 57 but we think he could use a few more pounds. We estimate him to be about 2 years old. We have not tried him with other dogs yet but will update when we do. (We have a pretty good guess of no cats!) His adoption fee of $200 includes neuter, current vaccines, microchip, free vet visit, offer of free pet health insurance, and engraved ID tag. ADOPTIONS ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. 541-475-6889

Dewy came to us as a surrender due to his family moving. He is about 6 years old and weighs 70 pounds. This big fellow is very handsome and loving. He enjoys playing with other dogs and fetching balls and sticks. We have a good deal of history from his owners for prospective adopters to review. He has lived with his mom dog, cats, chickens, and a 4 year old child. Dewy has never been left alone for long periods of time so he would probably enjoy that scenario in his new home as well. Any potential canine roommates should meet here at the shelter for the best match. We recommend another dog in his new home be a female rather than another male. Dewy is ok making room in your bed for you once he is comfortable! Dewy can be met and placed on hold but can't go home until Tuesday, April 7th. His adoption fee of $150.00 includes neuter, current vaccines, microchip, free vet visit, offer of 30 days pet health insurance, and engraved ID tag.

Cinderella was a stray before coming to our shelter so unfortunately we have no history. Since arriving (very recently), she has been a little shy but very sweet. Cinderella appears to be about one to one and a half years old. We will post more as we get to know her better. We like her already! Diesel has lived with another dog and a cat. He has a tendency to want to chase cats if they run but will not hurt them. He has lived with kids and did well. Diesel can be a bit of a barker if bored or wanting attention. He is very well mannered and knows sit and lay down. Diesel has been with a female dog and has done fine, however, we would not recommend a home with a male dog in it. We think he is about 6-7 years old and weighs 70 pounds. No wonder you stopped to look at this stunning boy! Doobie is such a handsome example of a Doberman. At about 2 years old, he currently weighs 74 pounds and could actually stand to gain another 5. He was an owner surrender due to older male dogs in the home not being a good fit for Doobie, nor he with them. He lived with adults and children and is reported to have especially loved the kids. He likes to sit in the front seat on car rides and occasionally bark hello to cows! We are told he is a couch potato once he gets his exercise needs met. This is one strong guy. He knows basic commands and is not food aggressive. Doobie loves a good game of fetch! He had free run of his previous home and used a dog door to go outside. *****PUPDATE - Doobie loves playtime here with female dogs BUT does not do well living in a home with another dog, male or female. He should be an ONLY dog in his new home since he does not like to share his people or his things with other dogs. He is a very sweet dog and he absolutely LOVES children. Doobie is not a mix. He is a purebred Doberman that never had his ears cropped. Doobie's adoption fee of $300 includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccines, 30 days of pet health insurance, and engraved ID tag.

Loomis came to us as a transfer from Burns, where he was found as a stray. He is a 3.5 year old pointer/hound mix, we think, but there could be more breeds in the mix! He has been with female dogs and does OK but is still learning about appropriate play rather than overwhelming playmates. He is learning more every day! This guy is incredibly friendly and loves attention but absolutely needs an active home to keep his mind and body busy. He needs to be fed separately from other dogs in the home as he has tendencies to guard food and toys. He might enjoy being an only dog in the home! Pupdate - Loomis met the trainer today and showed that he is indeed a very friendly boy. He will need work on walking nicely on leash, because he does try to pull where he wants to go. He had a great playgroup with several female dogs today, and one of the girls was a bit rude, and he totally deferred and did not posture back to her at all. He's a really likable guy with a beautiful coat color, but please only train him with force-free methods. He does not deserve harsh corrections and painful punishment for acting like a dog! He has that lovely "bay" like a hound dog, even though he looks more Pointer. The adoption fee of $175 includes neuter, microchip, current vaccines, free vet visit, 30 days of pet health insurance, and engraved ID tag. ADOPTIONS ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. 541-475-6889

Blu was an owner release to HAL due to insufficient fencing and loving to take himself on a walk and is about 5 years old. He is one big snuggly happy love bug who doesn’t know his own size not only that he sure is handsome! He loves people of all ages and previously lived with another dog. Due to being an outdoor dog in his past home he is in need of being potty trained. He loves to go for walks but is a pretty good puller so again he needs work on some basic manors. He just needs a second chance in a loving home that has time and patience to work with and train him and that will invite him in , love him and make him a loved member of the family. His adoption fee is 175.00 this includes his neuter utd on his vaccines microchipped free 30 day trial of pet health insurance, free vet visit within the first two weeks of adoption and free custom engraved Id tag.

What we have learned since he has been here at HAL is that he can be not only dog selective but also people selective. Sometimes you have to spoil him a little with some yummy treats then he will love you forever. If going to a home with children we recommend ages 10yrs and up. Meet Silly Echo! This goofy girl came to the shelter back in the beginning of August. She was very under weight, had mange, porcupine quills stuck under her skin and multiple lacerations. Since then she has been treated and cleared of mange, gained a healthy amount of weight and has the porcupine quills removed. During her spay we had her hips x-raid since we noticed that she seem to have a hard time balancing when she played. Sadly she does have hip dysplasia. She would make a loving companion for the right home that is willing to take on her quarks, work on training and know that eventually her hip dysplasia will require medical attention and pain management as she gets older. She can not go to a home with cats or other dogs due to her past and where she came from she was not very socialized. Her adoption fee is $175.00 this includes her spay UTD on her vaccines free 30 day trial of pet health insurance free custom engraved ID tag and free vet visit within the first two weeks of adoption.

Kira came to HAL as an owner surrender. Not because she is a "bad" dog or anything of that nature but simply because she is just a big pup. She is about 2 1/2 years old and she is rambunctious and loves to play and go go go. She gets the zoomies when she is really happy so be careful she is sure to sweep you off your feet if your not on your toes. She does well with most other dogs but not all. She can be a little slow/hesitant to make new doggy friends. She is in need of an active home with a fenced yard that will get her out to exercise, play and work with her on her basic manors. She needs someone gentle and loving who will use treat based training and positive reinforcement work with and train her. She might be a big pup but she has a gentle soul. Her adoption fee is $200.00 this includes her spay UTD on her vaccines, microchip, free vet visit within the first two weeks of adoption, free custom engraved ID tag and free 30 day trial of pet health insurance.
